What is Common Law Admission Test or CLAT?

Common Law Admission Test or CLAT 2024, is a national level entrance exam for law college admissions. Both public and private Law colleges accept the results of CLAT exam for selection of candidates for admission. Thousands of students every year apply for this exam with great hopes of getting a chance to study law in top Law colleges in India.

The applicants will be accepted into the undergraduate and graduate legal programs provided by the 22 participating NLUs. The merit list made public after the announcement of the results will determine who gets admitted through CLAT in 2024 in different courses like BA LLB, B. Sc. LLB, BBA LLB, B. Com LLB, BSW LLB, and LLM. We have included information regarding the CLAT 2024 exam in this article, including the application process, syllabus, exam preparation, etc.

The CLAT 2024 syllabus generally requires students to focus on subjects and topics like general knowledge, current affairs, legal aptitude, logical reasoning, English, and arithmetic. The majority of questions will be based on these topics to assess the merit of applicants in the Law entrance exam. On November 03, 2023, the CLAT application form 2024 will be closed. Enrolled candidates who will submit their application forms for CLAT 2024 will receive their admit cards in the month of November. For the aspirants, CLAT sample papers have already been made available. In addition, enrolled applicants have access to an Emotional Health Support Service (EHSS).

The Common Law Admission Test, or CLAT, is now being held earlier than usual—in December—instead of when it usually takes place—the first week of May. The fact that the Common Law Admission Test will not conflict with board exams is advantageous to the candidates. However, candidates should also keep in mind that they have a limited amount of time to get ready for CLAT 2024. They are therefore encouraged to get ready properly.

Important preparation tips for CLAT 2024 by subject

Candidates should adhere to the preparation tips listed below as they get ready for CLAT 2024.

CLAT 2024 Legal Aptitude

The CLAT test includes a significant portion on legal skills. Candidates should practice their legal aptitude basics as they get ready for CLAT 2024. Candidates should take a thorough approach to preparing for the legal aptitude test. Legal current affairs and legal concepts and terminology are the two components of legal aptitude. Candidates should concentrate on both elements and make an effort to relate contemporary legal concerns to established legal principles.

Candidates might refer to the materials listed below for their legal aptitude.

  • "Legal Awareness and Legal Aptitude" By AP Bhardwaj,
  • The Butterworths LexisNexis
  • The Indian Express or The Hindu
  • Legal publications, decisions, and editorials

CLAT 2024 Current Affairs and General Awareness Preparations

The area of current affairs is dynamic and vast. It will assess the candidate's knowledge of current issues with major national and global implications. The static subjects in the general knowledge component will be drawn from history, politics, economics, and the environment. But once again, the candidates will need to read the comprehension paragraphs before responding to the questions in these parts. Some of the answers will be in the paragraph itself, but having a conceptual grasp of contemporary problems and having a general knowledge base will not only enable students to tackle more questions but also to respond to them more rapidly.

Therefore, applicants should adhere to the tips provided below in order to prepare for the CLAT 2024 general knowledge and current affairs sections.

  • Read a daily newspaper like The Live Mint, The Indian Express, or The Hindu.
  • Read newspaper articles and editorials as well as those on the internet.
  • Read Class 12's history, politics, economy, and ecology for general knowledge and take notes.
  • Read a monthly magazine on current events.
  • Practice CLAT 2024 sample tests.

CLAT 2024 English Language Preparation

The CLAT 2024 English and comprehension portion will assess applicants' reading abilities, analytical thinking, and grammatical proficiency. Candidates must therefore make progress on each of these fronts. Since all CLAT English questions will be based on paragraphs, it is crucial to initially concentrate on your grammar and reading ability.

Reading newspapers, articles, and editorials as well as consulting a reliable grammar book are two ways that candidates can get ready for the CLAT 2024 English exam. Candidates should create a notebook exclusively for vocabulary, legal terminology, and idioms and phrases as they get ready for CLAT 2024. Candidates should also practice a significant number of sample papers using the CLAT test format before taking the exam. This will enable them to tailor their preparation to the demands of the exam.

Quantitative Techniques

This section includes basic algebra, menstruation, statistical estimation, graphs, numerical data, ratio and proportion, etc.

Legal Analysis

Applying the law's norms and passages, among other things.

Logical reasoning

Candidates cannot risk losing points in the CLAT 2024 Logical Reasoning part due to a lack of preparation. Instead of evaluating candidates' theoretical knowledge, this component evaluates their analytical ability. Only with careful practice and understanding can one master it.

Check important CLAT 2024 Logical Reasoning syllabus and pattern highlights below:

Particulars CLAT Logical Reasoning Highlights
Type of questions Passage-based MCQs
Number of reading passages 4-6 comprehension passages of 300 words each
Total questions 28-32
